“Kids do well if they can” is a guiding philosophy of Ross Greene’s Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS; Think:Kids, n.d.). It emphasizes collaboration between adults and children to identify and address problems contributing to challenging behavior, and build skills such as flexibility, frustration tolerance, and problem-solving. Operating from this assumption positions behavior analysts to provide culturally responsive, assent-based services that meaningfully involve clients and stakeholders while minimizing the risks associated with behavior-change programs, consistent with our ethical guidelines (BACB, 2020). In this webinar, Dr. Jamine Dettmering will: 1) Conceptualize this philosophy through a contextual behavioral science lens; 2) Explore relevant ethics codes; 3) Identify common barriers observed in her work with youth in foster care; and 4) Offer practical strategies for implementation.
