Academic Affairs

Brandon C. Perez, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an assistant professor in the Department of Special and Early Education at Northern Illinois University (NIU) and he is also coordinator of the BCBA program at NIU. Brandon graduated from The University of Florida where he earned his Ph.D. in psychology with an emphasis in behavior analysis under the mentorship of Tim Vollmer, Ph.D. At NIU, he teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including many of the courses required for the M.S.Ed in special education with a specialization in behavior analysis. His research interests are primarily centered around working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder and include toilet training and the assessment and treatment of severe problem behavior. He has published articles in and serves as a reviewer for multiple behavior-analytic journals.

Academic Affairs Committee

The goal of the Academic Affairs Committee is to support students, practitioners, and educators in behavior analysis in the state of Illinois by disseminating information related to research, practice, or other scientific developments. Specifically, we aim to keep our members updated on relevant information from the BACB, ABAI, and other organizational-level changes. As a committee member, you will contribute to supporting the science of behavior analysis by assisting with the development of research awards, scholarships, and other recognitions for students and scholars. Additionally, we aim to create events to support students and faculty within our state, helping them become avid consumers and producers of research and science.

Legislative Affairs Committee

The goal of the Legislative Affairs Committee is to support legislative efforts related to the practice and science of behavior analysis in Illinois. We aim to educate and engage ILABA members, legislators, and public stakeholders on these issues. In the upcoming year, we plan to work with DCFS to update Rule 384 informed by best practices in ABA and collaborate with the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to address barriers to ABA service delivery. As a committee member, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of behavior analysis in Illinois. Working alongside dedicated professionals, you will help advocate for policy changes and influence legislative decisions to advance our field.

Practitioner Affairs Committee
